Windowed Mode and Options issue

Post by OnTheContrary »

Hello,

first, thanks for this wonderful game. I've been eying it for quite some time and finally decided to take the plunge today. Now for the issue.

The game runs fine with the exception of windowed mode. Manually editing the "settings.txt" file and changing the value from 0 to 1 in the corresponding field just gets happily ignored in the game, starting in the super ugly 1024x768 resolution (which really looks horrible on my 24" 1920x1080 screen). Luckily, there is an option in the "Options" menu available from within the game. Hurray! Except that wait, it does not do the intended thing. It correctly limits the screen size of the game itself, so that it now appears on the desktop occupying part of the screen. The problem is that it lacks any window borders, and thus cannot be moved across the screen. So, instead of having this positioned comfortably in the centre, it ends up at the upper left corner which makes playing it really, really irritating.

Also, the game does not remember the changes made in the settings. For example, selecting the "windowed" mode or choosing to display counters is discarded once I exit the game, and the next time I start it, these previous changes are happily ignored and I have to set them up again.

I am running Windows 7 Pro 64 bit, if this helps. I would really appreciate a solution, thanks!

Unfortunately window mode works like that - it is not a true window just a way to let you run it in the background.

The game was released long before Windows 7 and so there may be account privalige issues with writing out the settings to the games install folder. It deepnds exactly how you installed it and how you set up your UAC settings.

Unfortunately this is more an issue for your Windows 7 tech support people than us - we can't go back and modify all our games everytime Microsoft changes the way windows works and try and work around their latest change.

Thanks for the quick response. I find that using the 1.12.1 patch, I am at least able to specify whether I want fullscreen or windowed mode on startup, even though switching off music in the Options menu in-game is not remembered. Counter setting somehow started to work.

I am unable to run the GS Mod with version 1.12.1 though. I'll go back and reinstall version 1.12 with the GS Mod on top; hopefully this will make it work. The mod was the reason I bought the game.

The guys who made the expansion will hopefully be able to help you here. The mroe info you can give them the better but it might be best to start a specifioc thread relating to the GS issues so they can see it clearly in the tech support forum.

Will do that. I have tested this and can confirm that the GS Mod does not work with the mini patch from Slitherine that brings the game to version 1.12.1 Reinstalling the game (v1.12) and installing the GS Mod results in both the base game and the mod being functional.
