Rear support

Post by Skanvak »

Where are the rules for Rear support?

I don't find them in the manual. Can someone can tell me were to find them or what they are?

There are two types of support.

1) Support for Cohesion Tests. This is covered under cohesion tests in the help.
2) Support for melee. This is covered in the melee combat entry in help.

I suspect you want 1.

Melee Combat
Determine the number of attacks

Light foot vs. any other than light foot and fragmented troops : 2
Light horse vs. any other than light horse, light foot and fragmented troops : 2
Others : 4
Modify the number of attacks for supporting battle groups

A supporting battle group is:

Not attacking or being attacked in the current combat.
Not routing.
Adjacent to a battle group that is attacking or being attacked in the current combat.
Each adjacent supporting enemy battle group reduces a battle groups attacks by one.

Now, the above is not entirely correct/clear, as if you have a friendly BG behind you but not in contact with the enemy BG you are fighting, that friendly BG does not give support. They have to be in contact with the enemy. It is combat support as opposed to rear support.

This help?

At least once, I have seen a unit not in contact with the ennemy, and in the rear attack of the unit in melee give support to this unit melee combat.

Sometimes, for example units that have routed away from the enemy unit, show the support sign. Devs have said that this does not actually contribute to loss of dice but that it is just a left-over somethingorother.
