a) Check all POA
b) If net POA for both bodies are even, mounted with light spear are now + and opposing body -

An example:
Cavalry with Light Spear charge MF Impact Foot in the open. MF Impact Foot are +, Cavalry are + (for fighting MF in the open). Thus being at even POA, the Cavalry light spear takes effect and they are at +, MF at -.

It's a tie-breaker. Calculate the POAs without the mtd light spear. If the result nets a 0 POA, then the mtd with light spear is +.

So consider Cv with LtSp vs. MF with Lt. Sp.

MF have + POA for LtSp (the Cv are not shock mounted)
Cv have + POA for mounted vs. MF

Net POA = 0

BUT the Cv have LtSp so they go to +.

Compare same Cv vs. HF/Def Sp in 2 ranks.

If the HF charge:

HF get 0
Cv get 0

Cv go to + for LtSp

If the Cv charge:

HF get + (receiving charge)
Cv get 0

Net POA + for HF
LtSp does not come into play.

They are so pants that times when both players are using L/Sp armed cavalry are going to be statistically insignificant anyway

There speaks a man who doesn't understand Lt Sp Cv ...

There will probably be a lot of them fighting each other at Campaign this weekend as well :D

I prefer light spear cav over lancers due to the ability to evade.

Ah but you evade at five mu I charge at five mu if i get real close you either stand at minus or roll low and get caught I would rather have the chance to charge with a plus myself

They at least have the choice. And can decide when to charge. Unlike lancers who often have the decision made for them

Me too. Plus they don't charge off without orders. And they are better at impact against some troops (MF Off sp for example). They are quite vulnerable to being charged by cavalry lancers but can usaually evade the slower knights, elephants and cataphracts.

I used to be the same way, but now I prefer the tactical flexibility of light spear over the impact bonus/morale penalty of lances. I really prefer ancients and everything under the sun is death for cav to charge into. In a world of O spear, elephants and pike I think I would rather NOT charge and give myself the time to get on a flank.

As far as the 1" thing, you move up your turn, I move a unit for an intercept in mine. I would not call moving right next to a unit who can evade particularly brilliant. Most people figured that out by game three and have figured out how to deal with it. I think it would only affect people who put their unit of cavalry out there with no support that would have issues.

In addition your Lancer cavalry would actually have to test NOT to charge me, so you might not always be in a position to make the choice on whether or not to move within 1".

I bow to your superior knowledge and will no doubt adjust my tactics to match?

I also make a mean cup of coffee!

If people just run the cavalry out unsuported every game then your tactic of $!#$ blocking them by moving right up to them with your lancers (assuming you don't fail your CMT to charge) seems fine. Assuming your opponent is smart enough to not send a lone unit of cav out though, and instead supports it or thinks several moves ahead I think you just find yourself isolating your own cavalry.

Yes Guy Fawkes is a bit of propoganda. I was going to say Budhists. But they burn themselves.
