HF units represented by 5 figures?

HF units represented by 5 figures?

Hi
I have noticed that some Heavy Foot units are represented by 5 instead of 6 figures, that this meas anything in game terms or is it just aesthetic?

Probably just aesthetic, although I'd bet they are undrilled so that might be a visual cue.

I noticed the mixed unit types often have the 5 figures ie spears rear rank x-bows etc

That makes sense. LF in the rear would be two figures.

I have a feeling it distinguishes between drilled and undrilled.

Probably as Morbio says although in the TT version it's MF where the number of figures varies.
