Troop Quality in Cohesion, Rally and CMT tests.

Post by jamespcrowley »

Perhaps I am being extraordinarily dense here but I cannot see any obvious link between troop quality and any of the above tests.

Under the section in Help relating to troop quality, it suggest that, going from elite to poor, BGs are least likely to suffer from and more like to recover from, cohesion loss. That makes perfect sense.

However, I can see no modifier that relates directly to troop quality, only those relating to command radius, current cohesion state and proximity to other BGs. So, to all intents and purposes, an elite unit has the same chance of loosing cohesion or regaining it as a poor one?

I am aware of quality re-rolls being applied in combat but do they apply here? There is certainly no mention of them in help. And, under the same heading it states that quality re-rolls definately do not apply to CMTs, an area one would have thought quality would play a significant part.

I would agree that quality should play a part for drilled troops CMT tests, but I don't think superior knights (or other superior undrilled) should be less likely to charge than average ones, so I'd say only for cohesion tests for undrilled.

There is no direct modifier for troop quality other than quality re-rolls. these do not apply to CMT's for anarchy though.

Troop quality does however effect the point at which units auto-rout due to losses.

Quality re-rolls apply to all anarchy tests (Complex Move Tests (CMTs) in the TT rules and in the on line help) except possibly for impetuous charges. (Iain said one thing and the on line help says the opposite for anarchy charges so I'm not sure which is correct.)

The above statement is very confusing.

In the TT rules quality re-rolls do not apply to any CMT to stop impetuous charges (anarchy in the PC game) so if they do apply in the PC game then they shouldn't. In all other cases they do apply which is what I put in my original statement unless I have missed a crucial update to the TT rules, will check later. As for the PC game I am right in thinking that the anarchy test is the same as an impetuous charge.

My statement is confusing because I was confused. Given that Iain says that the on line help should be considered authoritative, then the on line help does say that quality re-rolls do no apply in a CMT to avoid charging without orders (aka impetuous charges or anarchy charges). So FoG PC does appear to be consistent with FoG TT in this respect.
