Yellow Triangle

Post by Morbio »

For missile units I'm now getting a yellow triangle or hexagon appearing when I click the unit. I've looked in the help files (Game Interface - How To Shoot) but I don't see any reference to this.

Can anyone explain what it is meant to show?

At first I thought it was showing the area where I can shoot enemy, but the target icons show that. I'm slightly confused :?

It is the field of fire for the BG (and yes it is somewhat redundant with targets). Currently LF and LH can shoot all around while non-skirmish BGs in general are only able to shoot at BGs within their front arc that are within range (and hence have a triangle instead of a hex.) Skirmishers that fire at anything outside their front arc (before LF face for firing) do so with a -1 POA.

I havent even gotten home to download and see this effect and I can already tell it will bug me.... Hopefully there will be a way down the road to turn this off (I play with minimal hud except for unit bases and only with those as the old eyes get tired playing late nite)

If it's serving the same purpose as the target icons then it seems pretty pointless (and irritating). I do hope there is a way to turn it off :D

The issue was that before the patch there was no arc of fire. We needed a way to show it. We will add a way to turn it off, but it is quite useful until you get used to the idea of having to face things before you can shoot. It was intended to avoid having lots of people complaining they could not tell why they could not shoot something :)

I think if you just lost the bright yellow bordering line it might be okay. And maybe used something other than a vomitus yellow shade for the shading. Though in all honesty I think I'd prefer not to have it at all.

I don't think it's awful... it will help a lot of new players understand shooting-arcs. Not so keen on the yellow :) It would be good to have it toggled and with a colour selection.

Personally I like it, takes out all that guess work I used to have to do since I keep the hexes off. I dont really mind the yellow but a simple outline would have worked as well. Still I suppose it should be optional for those who don't like it. perhaps a choice of colour like you did with unit bases...

I think the new range feature is cool too!

For what it's worth, I'd like to be able to toggle it off.

I like it as well - quite useful when you're zoomed out on a 1900x1080 screen.
