Lawerence of Arabia & Hittite Slab

Sir T. E. Lawrence and Sir Leonard Woolley standing next to a Hittite slab found during excavations at Carchemish.

I found this pic on wikipedia, and it's in the public domain. Two things struck me about it. Well, three if you count the fact that it's just a damn cool piece of art.

At first, I thought it was faked, like the slab had been photoshopped into it. I still think it looks rather odd, but examining it under magnification didn't show any obvious mismatches at the edges.

Second, see the defeated enemy under the horse? See the horse's "package" ? See the line coming out of the end of the horse's tallywhacker, and going down toward the body? The damn horse is peeing on him!

Now, this is not totally unheard of, an archaeologist would explain it as depicting a "ritual spurning of the enemy", but it was still a bit unexpected for me. And made me laugh :)
