HF vs MF

Can someone explain to me why when HF impact MF the get slaughtered? I would think that HF impact BG's would have the advantage at impact over MF? It's really bad when you play the Marathon scenario. The Hoplites are beat up pretty bad when they charge the MF Persians. This doesn't seem correct to me :?:

It's not right, the hoplites should slaughter the Persian foot. I played that scenario and hated it, there is something definitely wrong with that one as I see it.

If it's bow MF I could see *some* rationale in a first turn advantage, as they loose off at point-blank range.
