Medieval Battle 1401 AD

Post by grumblefish »

I'm not sure if it's allowed to post beta scenarios in the custom scenario forum, so I'm just putting it here. This is a battle between ancient Thracians, led by Alkibiades, against various medieval units that are guarding some royal children. Here is the short, in-game description:

"While history suggests that Alkibiades was assassinated in Phrygia after the end of the Peloponnesian War, the truth is far more sinister. Unsatisfied with merely living in the 5th and 4th centuries, Alkibiades left Thrace on a trip to Phrygia with the intent of breaking the laws of physics! For shame! Although sources are scanty, the historical record suggests that he succeeded, and teleported into the 15th century. Not happy with mere chronological indecency, Alkibiades and his men then ambushed the unsuspecting Sir Lollerpants, who was escorting the King's Children! Oh no!"

Here is a link to the scenario; I tried balancing it against the AI but you can never really know until you face a human. I hope some people will accept my challenge on the multiplayer server!

For some reason, the battlefield also looks a lot prettier when seen from Alkibiades' viewpoint. If you're playing as the Knights, you can always hit R to flip the screen.

To the people who had accepted my challenges: for some reason the new patch wiped out the games. :( I have put up new challenges on this map (Medieval Battle 1401AD) in order to establish whether it is balanced; if you're still up for testing it with me then please accept again (or a new person can make a challenge and I'll join that).

Basically, I am trying to make a map with a good sort of hold the line/break through situation. The medieval troops here are in a position where they really must move forward (outnumbered in ranged troops, plus that ballista on the hill is mean), while the opposing Thracians can use the broken terrain and hills to allow their inferior troops to hold the line. Any suggestions are welcome; as indicated by the title and description, it's not the most serious map ever conceived, but I figure there's something to be learnt here.
