Fortified camp

Post by moet »

I read the manual, but I still don't understand the difference, in terms of gameplay, between "camp" and "fortified camp".

A camp is depicted as a couple of tents, a fortified camp is depicted as a couple of tents with a pallisade around it. In game terms a fortified camp is harder to destroy/loot because of its defences.

a regular camp you can move up to and contact and its sacked, it will disappear shortly. A fortified camp has some kind of wall about it with camp defenders a sort of mini-garrison as it is inside. To take that camp your troops move in contact with the camp then every turn the computer rolls a die and depending on the troop type, foot are better at this then mounted, you have to roll the magic number or greater to take the camp. Fortified camps can hold out for a long time or fall quickly depending on how lucky your virtual die rolls are.

Actually 2 parts to this - if the camp is fortified it has a camp guard which you roll to defeat. Only once it has been defeated do you get to roll to loot the camp.

could be different in the PC game in the TT game which I am more familiar with fortified camps its only one roll, either you succeed or you try again next turn. Another advantage of the TT game your camp attackers can break off combat if they become threatened by some other enemy. PC game they are stuck until they succeed and have sacked the camp
