Possible v1.05 fixes

Post by Peter Stauffenberg »

Because some late bugs were discovered by Panzergeneral we had to make some bugfixes. These are now being tested and we will increment the version number to v1.05. I also allowed myself to make 2 minor enhancements suggested at the forum not so long ago.

1. Fixed the bug about USA activating when Axis units were in Canada if USA had surrendered. This message won't show now and the Russians won't get another set of Siberian reserves.

2. Fixed a bug when UK had surrendered where the southern lend lease route to USSR would shut down. The bug sent the PP's to USA instead. Now USSR will receive the lend lease from Persia regardless.

3. Changed the code so attacking Belgium during winter or mud weather will NOT create a surprise efficiency loss upon units inside France. Belgian units will still be surprised though. This is done to make sitzkrieg more attractive. If you attack Belgium during bad weather
then the French would have been more prepared and the fight would be harder.

4. Linked the control of the British airfields to certain key cities.

Aberdeen controls Lerwick
Glasgow controls Stornoway and Benbecula
Liverpool controls Isle of Man
Scapa Flow controls Kirkwall

The airfields will not change owner if an air unit is occupying it. So Britain can keep control of Isle of Man if they fly a unit to the airfield prior to losing Liverpool. But once you leave the airfield you lose ownership.

These changes will immediately affect existing save games, but not invalidate existing games. You won't see a checksum error message or anything. Just use the updates and you will be fine.

These changes will be included in the official v1.05 version that Slitherine will post a link to very soon

The reason for change 3 is that the surprise effect upon units in France simulate the shock from the Ardennes offensive when the French were overrun there and didn't have defenses needed to stop the crossing of the Meuse. The real Germans waited for fair weather because they were dependent upon good weather for the offensive to work. Their armor units would not have moved fast enough through the Ardennes in the mud or winter to cause panic in the French HQ.

We can't recreate the Ardennes offensive with the game engine since no Allied played will leave a gap in his front line near the Ardennes. So the Allied played in the game will create a double defense line and it would be hard to simulate a rapid collapse of the French resistance without having a surprise effect upon the French too.

Now you will only get this surprise bonus on the French if you attack Belgium during fair weather. So if you decide to attack during the winter you have to be prepared for a harder fight. The alternative is to attack in fall 1939 BEFORE mud or winter has started. That will give the same shock effect upon the French units.
