Congrats to pantherboy and TheGrayMouser as the first 2 players to get national morale from amber into green. No-one has fallen down to the red zone as yet.

Following the campaigns some have made peace and some are carrying on or are undecided. Remember that if you fight on it is with the new reduced army points which I have PM'd to you. Neither you nor your opponent know each others new points. However as a guideline the battle winner recovers 50% of losses but the loser only 20%.

Also, as posted earlier today, no more quick resignations - penalty will be high for this.

We are roughly half way through spring.

Great fun!
I hope we can rethink this 20% for loser and 50% for winner straggler recover rule. Part of the campaign realism is to conserve your armies and their strength. If you reward play that may win on the route points in the simulation, but ignores losses on the field, then it does not encourage one to watch losses. It makes the win on the DAG all important, irregardless of losses. I think something like 10% for loser and 20% for winner would be better, if this is needed at all.
I think he said that it is calculated off losses not BG's.

Answering some recent points:-

Resigning is not a real option now as the penalty on morale is severe - far far worse than being defeated. However if both players agree to end a battle early I'd treat that as a draw with zero effect on morale.

On the army size I don't agree with telling both players the sizes - yes you could calculate it yourselves but hopefully won't. The aim is to bring a little uncertainty to the battles to make them more challenging. Let me know if you disagree with this please.

Recovery of losses after a battle - I thought 50% for winners & 20% for the defeated pretty fair. Yes it means battles are all important but the point of the LW campaign was to place them in some form of context for why you need to win a battle rather than make battles of minor importance. Short of varying the recovery according to the extent of the BG losses (and I'd have an issue with that due to a lost light BG being equal to a lost heavy BG in FoG) we have to stick to a fixed percentage. I'm open to changing the %age if that's felt required.

A campaign is 2 armies fighting over one area. It continues until some form of settlement is reach. Each side may issue a new challenge to battle - doesn't have to be the invader. You can agree to settle one campaign whilst carrying on another against the same opponent.

Hi Blathergut

Hi Blathergut. All you had to do was pull up Private Messages and do a search for me, CharlesRobinson. :D

You really have to schedule appointments for invasion since I normally don't keep up to date on minor principalities.

I take it that your rabble has crossed my borders to find yet more camels for your kinky rituals. I guess I will have to defend my villiages from your minions.

As per your question earlier: Carthaginians 235BC to 201BC.

Best of luck to you. :D

Battle Report

Post by ianiow »

Hi Peter
Perhaps it might be useful to include on your sticky thread a copy/pastable template for reporting battles? Perhaps followed by an example of how to fill it out properly. It might make your life a bit easiler too :) eg:-

Battle:
Lubbock, Texas (1st battle)

Defender:
Scar - Texas (Pyrrhic)

Attacker:
ianiow - Rhodes (Ptolemaic)

Defender results:
Points used : Initial army size/Casulties : AP results : Status
???/650pts : 49000/27579 : 47/45AP : LOSE

Attacker results:
Points used : Initial army size/Casulties : AP results : Status
645/650pts : 56000/20520 : 30/52AP : WIN

ps Sorry Scar but it appears I beat you in this example hehe

There are rumours of a new state forming - believed to be made up of ex-salves and freemen. Led by player ahuyton but not available until Summer phase so that he has a chance to form alliances.

Country - Revoltus
Provinces - Angrius, Maddus, Hidius, Furius, Crossus, Hereliethcrassus, capital area not yet named by Alan

Papyrus scroll from Kapadapa Kampaign..

More fragments:

*...sun set on bloodied battlefield...33 000 casualties in total from both sides...armies disengaged and retired to camps (uh...or sort of the enemy's camp! )...battle will most assuredly continue at dawn...*

So what does happen when the game ends because of time??? It said 26 but I think it ended at RBS's turn 25.

A draw in the finest tradition - no weak resignations for you two!

So no effect on morale but army sizes will be reduced - I'll PM them as soon as I can.

News from the East has it that skirmishing has turned into a major battle vs the Lord of Armenia, resulting in a Roman victory, however losses are higher than expected.
General Proximus has already made his official excuses to explain the high toll among Romans : It was too hot to bring our armor, the Armenians use poison darts, and most amusingly, some Armenians apparently fought in Roman kit, confusing our honest lads....

Rome will await word from the Lord of Armenia if he wishes to continue the fight.

Still waiting on Cartha, then the map should be good. Please let me know if there are any mistakes. Once it is caught up, I will post it on the main campaign page, and only do edits from then on as the provinces change hands.

Also, not sure where we left off on the new map representation ideas...anyone know what was decided there if anything?

Ha ha, what battle is this?, I must confess I have lost track on who is battling who at this point......also think the main page of alliances wars is out of date....
Maybe Scar can add lines from country to country to signify alliances/wars to the map?
