DAG question

Post by MesaDon »

I noticed on some units in the DAG a stylized letter "S" and the other was "PD" it was in the War of the Roses (Tutor). Also in other armies. what do these letters stand for. I do not remember seeing them in RoR.

Ihave it somewhat figured out but could use an authoritive definition.

S means that the unit (hvy cavalry or knights) can dismount at deployment time.

PG means portable stakes (usually for longbowmen). These must be bought at "shopping" time, by clicking on the "PG" icon

Wonder why they didn't go for M for mount/dismount and PS for the stakes? Maybe put aside for something else.

Well, M is for Mixed BGs. But, of course you're right.

Next question. I have noticed that you can only place stakes once. I figure there is a defensive bonus .... what is it? Also is it possible to once the game begins (after placement) to mount or dismount knights etc. Hopefully this and other questions will be addded to Help when the genuine release arrives.

The PD (portable defences) carried by longbowmen are as already stated stakes and once planted cannot be removed and placed again elewhere. To be quite honest I think that its being VERY generous allowing stakes to be placed at any time during a battle as it would take a long time to cut and deploy row after roww of wooden stakes prior to a battle beginning. Historically they were a barrier to disrupt the charge of enemy cavalry and used extensively by the English during the HYW and also during the WOTR.

In the TT rules at least it is not possible to mount/dismount once the game begins, I must admit that I do ignore this personally and hope that this is the case in the PC version. I do like the idea of being able to ride to a location and dismount my Mounted Burgundian Archers so they can shoot their bows in the TT version and also makes use of all those mounted longbow figures I already bought (like so many people) long before FOG was ever conceived.
