I don't understand very well the setence in the ambush section "ambushes must not be visible from any part of the enemy deployment area for skirmishers" i have scanned the deplyment map example and put in it some ambush markers.
I am the player in the bottom and my markers are A,B & C, my oponent marker is D. What are right and what are wrong and why?
Thanks
PS: The map is for illustrating purpose only. if there is any copyright infringement i delete it immediatly
B, C and D are all within the central third of the table, ambushes are not allowed there. If terrain feature 4 is a hill, then A will be visible from pretty much anywhere, so is also not a permitted ambush.
In order to be a viable ambush, the marker needs to be placed either in, or behind, a terrain feature that blocks visibility. For example, if feature 3 is an enclosed field, then an ambush consisting of a LF BG could be placed there by the player at the top side of the table, as LF wholly within an enclosed field can only be seen from within 4 MUs and they would therefore not be visible from the Skirmisher deployment area at the bottom part of the table.
I suggest you check the effects of terrain on visibility (P131). This will give you an idea of which troops can be hidden in different terrain features.
If you win the PBI before deployment you can have ambushes up to 24 inchs in from the table edge. You can only have them placed in the two outside thirds of the table not in the centre third. The loser of the PBI can only lay ambushes up to 18 inchs in.
