Hello darkness my old friend. I only got my list in this week, sorry, life unfortunately gets in the way sometimes.

To be honest, the organistation has been little short of shambolic. We don't know who is playing, we don't know how many people are playing, there aren't any directions to the venue, there are no maps, there have been no "preferred rates" for any hotels nearby. All of which we have come to expect.

OK - I have found the football stadium, but to the SE there is just a large body of water? Tried searching for the apollo exhibition centre, but find nothing.

Any more clues?

You could follow the DBM players - there are more of them than FoG players apparently !!

Seriously though, google the street address, not a"Apollo exhibition center"

Thanks Bodo, I think I have found the streets where the venue should be!

What time are you getting there?

We also will check for the venue before, from the satellite it looks like easy to find BUT we'll have to walk not to flight ;)

I think it is more that not many people were that keen on another trip to Athens when they were mostly feeling poor and many had already been to Athens only a few years ago.

Personally I am in the middle of making plans for Wellington 2011. New Zealand has been on my list of places I really want to go to so this year I am mainly looking to save money. That and the fact I am not a big fan of open tournaments any more.

Look at the published Runners and Riders. Those numbers leave a lot to be desired.....

Assuming the web site is up to date of course ...

However, it is indeed a far cry from previous European WICs, but to some degree I am unsurprised given the current economic situation. I'd have gone, however, facing redundancy ...

Exactly.

Not having had paid employment for two years now it would have meant raiding my savings and having already been to Athens I would rather spend what I have on going somewhere else.

I am sure that those who attend will have a great time (unless Phil bumps into that 'woman' again ;)) but for me I just couldn't justify the expense. If I was still earning I would have enterd in a flash just as I would have gone to Alexandria had I been able to justify it.
