petergarnett wrote:When war is declared the attacker raises his army upto a max of 650 points. The defender does the same but also decides which area to defend. The 2 battle, repeatedly if need be, until one gives up & makes peace.

If you resign you lose the battle but can fight again in another battle, i.e. you didn't like the terrain, or you merely wanted to deploy your army & check out the opposition.

However each lost battle (including any resigned) lowers your national morale & raises that of your opponent.

Perhaps we'd be better describing each fight for an area as a campaign.

As posted earlier today I don't like the idea of adding to your army points during such a campaign as players will merely keep topping upto 650 points. However we may need to revisit this.

I fail to see what you could achieve merely putting up 1 point armies!

Please bear in mind also that in DAG there are minimums.
So once the DOW is finished and a copy of the army (or at least points is sent to you), I assume the invader should just issue a challenge to the defender?

It is very sweet of you, but my scouts report no troop movements on your side of the border. Perhaps your declaration of war is only a public relations exercise to diffuse local unrest in your own territories?

You claim a defensive war, yet call upon all nations to wage war on Egypt and her allies? As it is unlikly you can read our dispatches we will not waste effort with niceties. The largest army that your meager lands can support will march as soon as our sacred familial duties are are completed.
Axe. Face. That's the only diplomacy you will get from the Nervii...

It's time for the Seleucids to teach those cappadocians a lesson. This means war!

I believe the first battle of the campaign is over and we regretfully resign the battle to the armies of the Egyptians and recalculate our risks and assessment for the upcoming campaign.

Gallic army strength
86060

Ptolemaic strength
63040

Results
19380 Gallic casualties
11516 Ptolemaic casualties

(61/67 break points for the Gallic armies vs. 35/59 for the Ptolemaic).

^ For those keeping track and are interested in such things... PM'd the info to petergarnett as well.

Returns to the palace pool to bath in his Gallic glory. Tosses a soapy wet papyrus rag of war at you.

Scribbles off a couple of scrolls!!!

Calls on all his friends to respond with him in this unprovoked act of despicable aggression against Egypt.

I am still a bit unsure how this works for the map purposes, so does this result cause a loss in a province? Or does the fight keep going on and on until one side gives up, either winning a new province, or retreating back from the attack?

It depends on what happens.

If the side being attacked loses the battle, i.e., their army is broken and 'game over,' then they have the choice to fight on (a second DAG battle with what's left of their army + whatever they manage to gather from the scattered bits) or they can give up the area to the attacker.

Likewise, if the attacker loses, they could run away or gather for another battle.
