It would be better to be adj to several instead of just two.

Yep - i'm thinking that if we do it this way - we say we can attack 4 ranks above our name and 4 ranks below if we no longer control a port (sort of making an abstract 'square' around you). And to clarify - this doesn't have to be your original port - if an opponent's port falls to you - you could use that to launch attacks on everyone again... Just some thoughts at least.

Map

Post by Scarz »

Here is a proposed simple map, to help us all see who has how many territories.

Once the alliances are all declared I can group the countries under alliances and those with out. As people lose or gain provinces, we can simply add or take away circles.

Just a free for all to begin with please but interesting idea Ryan - might be a good half way house.

DoW are recorded on the player table - hard to keep a war quiet. However you may or may not chose to post it here.

Here is another plea for an at start map where players only get to attack adjacent countries unless they go by sea at an attrition/maintanance cost as suggested by RBS.

With 19 or more players a free for all, attack anyone system is going to be anarchic and make diplomacy so much more difficult.
Its demanding enough in a game like Crown of Glory with proper borders and a maximum of only eight players
-admittedly that has a highly developed diplomatic framework that we don't need here.

Whether we use FOW or not (my preference is for the former as more realistic) can we have an agreed house rule
that we avoid the targetting bug by firing as normal at front ranks and not through lights or other intervening ranks as allowed by the bug.

Ya, as best as possible, not through lights, please. Sometimes hard to judge, but would remove most of the shooting through lights.

For the first year let's adopt Scar's latest map - a visual aid to how players are doing. There is a lot more to iron out than just the map :?

With you on that one. As an aside, I like the idea of a simple map with some adjacencies - makes alliances meaningful to ship troops through ally's territories.

Cheers,

The idea of all this is to give some context to the battles you play & not to reduce how many you play - if DoW's are hidden until I fire a starting gun what happens to those who didn't declare war in case they got picked upon - nothing to do for a full season.

As my mother used to tell me "You're a big strong boy so get out there in the playground & rough it up lad". How I hated that at 38

Royal Cousins, Emperors & Despots,

I fear that my Illyrian neighbours have been taking liberties with our agreed borders and have abused the sacred bonds of trust between monarchs. While we would obviously wish to avoid open conflict, how can we deal with such an aggressive and destabilising factor in our midst? Our Imperial Armies are ready to march.

Whats the rule if A and B have an alliance, and A and C have an alliance, can C attack B?

I hate algebra - according to my 12 yo daugther the answer is Y

The alliance merely prevents the 2 countries from attacking each other for one year.

Since the Nervii have refused all reasonable attempts at peace, we toss the wet papyrus rag of war at them. :P

We offered every hospitality to the emissary of the nation of Egypt, even allowing him to leave our lands with his head still attached to his shoulders. It is clear however, that the Egyptian leader is obviously using the acts of 'supposed' diplomacy as a way to control, coerce, and enslave all of those who are the one, true free peoples. We the Nervii, do not take kindly to such acts, which reak more of the crazed ramblings of a lunatic dictator than an honest offering of peace. See how the refusal is accepted? All we stated was that at this time it was not in our interest to develop an alliance when the Nervii preferred to see to our lands and our people over the calculations of foreign war. But we will not be pushed far. We will not sit idly by as such tyranny marches against our people. And we call for all of those who consider themselves to be believes in sovereignty, independence, and freedom to note this day... For this is the day where we forge a line between those who are willing to stand idly by as the Egyptians, under no real justification, declared war on an independent state of allied tribes and brought chaos into our world. Ask yourself, for those who have not allied with this Egyptian maniac - how long will it be until a simple refusal of an alliance puts yourself in the sights of his war-mongering ways?

If you are interested in standing against this oppressive abuses, I do not require an alliance -- only request humbly that as I drive his invading force from my Nervii lands, that you occupy his armies at home - disrupt his lines of communication - cut his supplies... Raid his towns and villages. Break him apart piece meal as he over-extends his far-reaching hand into territories that are not his and that he has no business claiming.

I will humbly join any kingdoms or lands in an alliance after they show to me (and the rest of the world) that they will stand against this foe - which is by far the greatest threat to freedom and peace in our time.

Remember who first calls out the dogs of war... Remember the Nervii!

(So just as a bit of clarification here - now that we know that Egypt is deciding to invade my lands (curse you Egypt!) - I now PM petergarnett with my region to defend and the number of points I build my army with up to 650 points. At that point, Blath and I go into a match to try to fight it out with that number of points? Just making sure I wrap my head around everything.)

quick thought on the PM'ing thing, what if we all went on the other forum made a post that says hi and then there is a nice easy list of all the players and you can click the pm tag on the bottom of their post to send them a private message.
Just a thought.
