The Empire of Texas
My boy's will be fighting for the "Empire of Texas."
Yeah, that's a bug in the game. I've run many armies that should have gotten a +4, but I can never get above a +2.Blathergut wrote:Guys...it seems any DAG game I load in New Game>DAG Game, the commanders are not adding in for initiative. Is this just me doing something wrong or is this something mentioned before as a bug or has it not been noticed?
I think we settled on 650 as a max a couple of pages ago.Ironclad wrote:I would prefer 600 (or maybe 650) for the normal maximum as that seems to give a better choice on a number of lists. Perhaps the higher maximum of 750 could be used in special circumstances eg invasion of a country's capital province?

Has that been decided? If not, I would vote for it. (Although I would prefer 600).iversonjm wrote:I think we settled on 650 as a max a couple of pages ago.Ironclad wrote:I would prefer 600 (or maybe 650) for the normal maximum as that seems to give a better choice on a number of lists. Covering some of the posts / PM from earlier today:-
If you resign a battle it counts as a defeat - you may save more of your army though. However each defeat lowers your national morale. The lower the morale the more resistance to paying taxes, more chance of revolts, treachery at besieged cities etc.
National morale is a number from 1-100 but only I know it. You merely get an indication of how your people feel about your rule.
I only accept bribes in Cadbury cream egg form.
The test on fighting a DAG battle with armies of different strengths worked - my thanks to Richard for his help on this.
We will go for 650 points as the maximum army size. More on the following post on declaring war & raising the armies etc.
Empire of Texas has to be my favourite name so far - still several of you who need to let me know the name of your country please.
If you're away for a few days it's not a problem - any wars involving you are suspended & new declarations of war are delivered but 'unopened' until your return.

The year is divided into the 4 seasons. We start in Spring. Each season begins with some events / decisions such as founding a new city, making a formal alliance. These events vary by season but every season includes paying to maintain your armies in the field.
Your initial treasury is 20,000 - you can call it talents, drachmai, gold pieces, golden nuggets, or popcorn chicken. You choice but there are no exchange rate variances here!
You will collect taxes / tribute in Fall based upon how many areas / cities you control when the harvest comes in.
Some events out of your control may add / deduct from your treasury.
Between the seasons are the actual campaign turns (but not during winter - then you basically stay in place in terms of army movement).
In a turn you carry out any required diplomacy and most important of all declare war.
When you declare war you notify your opponent who decides which of his areas to defend - provided that area is not already being attacked. By all means name your areas but to me they are just numbered.
Both of you create a 650 point army with an appropriate name, e.g. My 3rd army v Toby. How many actual points you selected in this army is your decision but each army point costs one money point. Later maintenance costs one per two army points. Obviously you may only use your agreed army list.
You both PM me with the actual army size (this has to be confidential as I use it to adjust your treasury - and you'll need to trust other players to be honest with this).
And then you fight. You don't need to wait for an answer from me.

After the battle I need to know from one of you the result. Who won and most important of all the starting strength and casualties - both need to be in terms of men NOT POINTS.
You can resign a battle to try to save your army but it is still a defeat.
And this is an important point - you win / lose battles in terms of routing the enemy BG's. However for the campaign the percentage of men lost will be used for my calculation of your new army size. So if you want to win a cheap victory by merely knocking off his LF/LH and avoiding those heavies be aware that his army will not shrink by too much!
It also may mean in battle, some poising for position before you make those final attacks as you need to inflict the maximum casualties.
Please note that I've chosen this method to make battles more of a challenge.
Winning & losing a battle also affects how much of your army survives, e.g. if you hold the field you'll recover much of your losses, if you resign you'll recover some, and if defeated it best to bulk buy the coffins!
Any questions so far guys?

What about a simple picasa web upload through google?petergarnett wrote:Afraid not Richard - I cannot think of a simple way to store & distribute a map and so it's abstracted![]()
You'll tend to improve areas with cities only whilst you have a few other areas as a buffer to stand and fight in - your border areas if you like.

I don't mind the idea of an abstracted map, but i tend to like visual representations too. Even if its simple representations - no need to go crazy. I don't mind helping with this... If you need help with it. I just like the idea of at least some visual representation to show the progress of the campaign (and we can keep the previous maps uploaded on picasa as we go through the gallery to see the progress of the campaign). Just some thoughts at least.

Sends you a boatload of Cadbury Easter Creme Eggs (since...uh...he seems to have a major stash for some reason) to make up.
As far as the map goes, could we not just draw one up, and post it as a picture here in the forum? I think it would be fairly easy to do (although it may not be pretty) and easy enough to update. I would be happy to volunteer to get one going for your use if you would like.petergarnett wrote:Afraid not Richard - I cannot think of a simple way to store & distribute a map and so it's abstracted![]()
