I would think that a resign must have some consequence - you lose a province or something. I suppose it will all become clear.

I think the Illyrians are enough of a handicap especially against the armies with heavy foot. As for points 650 works for me.

Choosing 650 points...only actually use 100 of scouting...start battle and immediately scurry away (resign)...redo list now that i know his army...dang...guess he can too....stupid war...never an advantage for me...

But seriously...if I resign a draw is just that...like I refused to actually offer battle. Or will there be/should there be some limit or consequence(s) for too many "refusals?" Or any refusals?? Maybe not allowed?
Assuming the test Richard & I are doing works then yes. If not then we'll have to go with a less exciting best of 3 battles with equal points.

However in the background I maintain your national morale number which is altered by various things including battle victory / defeat. This number is part of such things as the calculations I do on tax raised, slave revolts, palace intrigue

Blathergut wrote:I can see why you might offer refusal...trying to get terrain in your favour. But too much of a delay should cost something. But delaying the other guy may be good too...make him take longer and cost more. HmmMmmmmMmMmm...
I guess the classic strategy could apply in the above, buying time for space..... The guy who keeps resigning is assumed to be in retreat and maybe loses that province automativally after 2, 3 ?? withdrawels?
I also feel only the defender should be able to withdraw.... Not sure what penalty the attker should get if defender keeps withdrwaing on him, i guess having an army tied up to no good purspose should suffice?

Do you have an actual set of rules/guide that we can read/follow?

Sends out scrolls professing friendship to all the rulers (whilst removing all identifying marks and trying to make his ships look "Roman.")

Absolutely no copies of the rules - just mere guidance from me. Plus as it runs I'll need to fine tune to try to keep the game interesting for all.

I should have been more creative w my army name, imagine diplomatic dispatches staring with:
Greetings from the Humungus! The Lord Humungus! The Warrior of the Wasteland! The Ayatollah of Rock-n-Rollah!

? regarding game mechanics Peter:
I realize the map is an abstraction but you mention cities and sieges, as well as improving your lands ie buliding cities. This implies specific territories can be targeted, however will one be able to pick any target to attack or will, say, you capitol be nestled behind or "surrounded' by your other territories requiring an invader to come thru multiple territores to take out you capitol etc...

If anyone can attack anyone else - is there any limit on how many countries can attack the same enemy at the same time? If not how can that country avoid going bust raising multiple defending armies all of which presumably have to be financed from the same treasury pot?

Two players fight over one area only. A 2nd war is required to attack another area which means raising a 2nd army. War is expensive as well - you also have to pay maintenance each season for armies in the field.

Each of your areas may only be attacked by one player - that way a player doing badly & down to say 3 areas can only be attacked by 3 enemies. Equally the leader with 20 areas will find himself the target of many enemies (being the jealous lot I know you to be).

Your capital is the last area to be attacked and may only be attacked if all other areas are lost - that gives the buffer to getting knocked out too quickly I believe. Even if you do lost all areas you can just join again as a new country.

I don't want to type up a long set of play guidelines yet (I will much later on) - I'd rather we start slowly & give out when you need to begin with & those decisions you need to make in Spring & a few clues for longer play.

Sorry to be mysterious but really you guys are guinea pigs to an extent

How is army attrition to be handled?
example 600 pt army vs 600 pt army, I lose at say 50/50 of my break points , opponent victorious at 40/50 Is it winner take all?

hey...ianiow...can you check this??

I put together 650 pts of Ptolemaic...w an inspired commander.

When I run New Game>DAG Game...and the initiative roll comes up...am only getting +1 for 5+ cavalry. Not getting the +2 for inspired.

Do you get the same?

Wow, this is going faster than I anticipated. Unfortunatly I'm leaving home after the weekend and will not have access to a decent internet conection for about a week and a half. I'm back 14/4.
If it's still ok to participate I choose the name Canaan. Has a nice fantasy ring to it as well, I think

Guys...it seems any DAG game I load in New Game>DAG Game, the commanders are not adding in for initiative. Is this just me doing something wrong or is this something mentioned before as a bug or has it not been noticed?

Ok, I'll be Northern Kappadokia - as that was technically the correct name for Pontus ayway.
