Rear support

Post by deeter »

Since there are several threads about FoG mechanics and how to improve them, I mights as well throw this out:

On the TT, rear support is provided by units within a certain distance. They also have to be facing forward and at least be of the same quality. On the PC, they can be facing in any direction and be inferior but must be adjacent. If the supported unit breaks, they can lose cohesion. On the TT, there is enough distance to where they don't have to test.

Maybe it all averages out, but I'd like to keep my rear supports an extra hex back so they don't have to test.

Nah, I like 'em as they are. I think if you support with poorer units, the price you pay is the greater risk of them breaking too.

You know, I do that with my rear supports, keep them one hex back, but to be honest mostly for the looks of the game (okay I know that sounds sad) as I feel that the space between them allows them to line up properly if you know what I mean. Sometimes though you do have to put the best troops in front just like the Saxons used to with their housecarls etc. I know I have done that with a spartacus slave army vs a roman army to great effect as I just knew most of the slaves wanted to run away.
