If you are active and the enemy routs one of your units and then pursues it may contact another of your units. If this new unit has not already fought it will be forced to fight the pursuing unit.

No, what happens is BG A breaks enemy...pursues...hits new enemy...fights said enemy. How you said I've seen happen as well.

I have had battles where a unit of mine has routed a BG then persued to make contact with a fresh BG then fight and routed that unit then carried on with its persute only to contact and fight a 3rd fresh BG. I can't rember if this happens in my game turn or the other players game turn. but it has happened more than once to me. Next time it happens I will save the game and post it here.

It happens becaus ethe enemy they contact has not taken their turn yet.

If they contact an enemy that has already moved/fought there will be no combat.

But if it is an as yet untouched counter, that piece will have to take its turn and therefore your other piece will necessarily fight twice (and in fact more than twice if it then routs the foe, follows up and finds itself adjacent another as yet unmoved enemy counter.

As I posted before you only fight once. I've never seen what any of you are saying. What I think is happening, as per the roman charge and 3 straight combats, is you are in the opponents turn and the opponent attacks and losses, you then follow up and the unit behind is engaged but hasn't acted so is forced to attack you resulting in another rout and your follow up which then lead to the identical situation and another rout. It would seem continuous because the ai isn't smart enough to do another move in between and just resolves the next attack. Versus another player you may see a break as they do something else and then come back to it. I am 100% sure this is what happened.

Also to emphasise what others are saying, this happens in the active players turn!
Cheers, Steve (a lot of Steves' around here!)

Btw how rude of me to not see your post on the 17thth offering a battle to see if we could repeat the phenominan...totally missed it.... Of course would always be up for playing a match, even though I hear you have never lossed, ironically I almost never win!
