Offline till 20th or so

Post by efthimios »

I will be offline from tomorrow morning till the 20th at the earliest. I am moving to a new house (sharing with 9 students) and I have already applied for a new BT line (no previous line there) which I will get on the 20th. AFter that I will try to get a plus.net broadband as quickly as possible but I have no idea how long that will take.
I know hundrends of people are going to miss me here and that some will even not be able to sleep for a few nights but I just have to do it! I am very sorry!
One of the good things is that I will manage to continue writing my AAR. :-)

with 9 students

I can't imagine one of our spanish trademark 100 m2 flats filled with 9 students (and their orgies). God Save The Queen Victoria and her big houses!!!!!

One of the good things is that I will manage to continue writing my AAR

hundrends of people...here

At least nine.   If you get on well with your new housemates, tell them to post in Slitherine's and we'll double the number of regular posters. This is the price you pay when your games are more or less free of nasty bugs.

Don't worry, I can afford missing anyone from 5 messages and above. I'll miss terribly Master of Darkness, who's only 7 messages or so. I'll cry a tear for a penguin :( .

I have to say I am very glad to finaly have proper internet connection (courtesy (paid) of Plus.net) This new student house is fine and glad to be away from university accomodation but without internet it would suck. The only thing remaining now is to finaly find a job (amazingly difficult, I try to find jobs as a cleaner, barman, packer, etc since I will not be able to work 9-5 from October onwards). People just don't like me or my CV. Or just bad luck.
Anyway it feels great to see nice people again and I will update my AAR by Monday.

Effy, what's meant by UK_Greece?

Do you live 6 months of the year in Greece, and the other 6 in England?

None of my business, really, just curious :)

Well, I am from Greece, I am greek, for the last 8 years I have spend far more time here (UK) than Greece. I haven't visited Greece for 3+ years now.

Well, I was born and raised here in San Diego, which has what is officially classed as a Mediterranean climate, and I hated the weather in London. It was awful.

How on earth have you managed to adapt, given that most of England has weather even worse than London?

Though, to be honest, the weather was about the only thing I didn't like, aside from conversations that went like this...

"So, Chris, are you Canadian?"
"Ah, no, actually I'm American"
"F*cking Americans..."

Ah, well, it was the 70's, and I think there was still a lot of ill-will remaining from the Vietnam war era. After a few months, the conversations started going more like this...

"So, Chris, are you Canadian?"
"Why, yes. Yes, I am. Beauty, eh?"

LOL. That was funny but true. I remember reading on a site that it is a good idea to pretend you are canadian when abroad, though canadians object to this. Funny.
Seriously though, things are not much better now. I am as much pro american you can get without being one, I even hope soon enough to be able to go there and become american. Funny thing is that I have a big american flag in my room and when people that do not know me well see it, look at me like I am suffering from a desease or something. Or like they have just tasted some bad eggs. Plus I get all the usual shit like "why do you like americans so much? they are all so stupid and fat etc" to which I reply, "and could still kick your sorry ass or save it, if needed, plus I am fat and stupid". I have actualy got into fights about the USA in some occasions. But that we are getting way off topic lol.

The weather is not great. The fact that some nights I have to turn on the heating in my room during the summer says a lot. (no, I am not a weakling) I do miss the sun and the heat that makes you sweat for no good reason doing nothing.
I am good at adapting. No, I am amazing at adapting. That is when I am doing it because I want to. I do like this country (of course not everything about it but you know what I mean) so it is not like a punishment or anything living here :-p . Still I am staying here away from the sun (and lost people because of it) because I want to succeed and manage to go to the USA and live there. I do not want to go there looking for a job or asking for help but have enough knowledge so that none needs to help me and not being a burden to the country.

Bud, with your attitudes, you'll be a good asset to this country, and I'll be proud to call you a fellow American.
