What is next

Post by Wolfden »

Hi All

Not certain if this is the place to post this, but now all the books are out where to now for FOG, with so many new sets coming out I would really like to still see FOG supported especially that I am now getting into the game and painting like a mad man  . Any ideas? Offical campaign books or something like for Punic Wars, invasion of 1066 etc. Something that shows terrain and OOB in FOG terms for the two sides?

Would be much appreciated as I want to show my gaming group who is stuck in Fantasy Stuff :( how good Historicals 8) can be.

Thanks

Leaving aside the 'campaign rules' aspect of this, did you check the scenarios section of this site?

You might want to take a look at the SOA site, or similar, because over the years Slingshot has covered a lot of this type of thing (albeit without the glossy pictures). There were also a lot of books (mostly published in the 70's or so it seems) that covered individual battles or campaigns with a wargaming perspective.

Generally the older ones will be ruleset agnostic, those from Slingshot generally reflect the prevalent ruleset of the time, but can be migrated.

Actually I think one of the good things about historicals is that you get a finite number of books to support all the armies and that is that.

Of course, some rules companies play on modern consumerism and are always releasing some new thing for you to buy. I personally don't consider that to be "support," I consider it to be marketing. :)

As a retailer myself, I admire it from a business perspective, but as a gamer I would love to see people spend more time gaming with their mates and painting, and less time waiting for that new thing to come out.

Agree with that. The one exception is if you already have an army that is not covered by the lists...

A bit like having a Tuareg army but not knowing what themes it can be used in!

Andy, not quite, as currently you know which themes it can legally be used in (all those it is listed in, which currently is none).

Sorry, could not resist that, especially since my Post Mongol Russians got rolled over by L'Homme Bleu under version 3.0 of another ruleset...

Is there really anyone who sticks slavishly to the proposals in the back of the army list books regarding themes?
Ask your local tourney host if you can bring your Tuareg and you will hopefully get an answer.

Maybe don't expect them to be allowed to fight in China or South America... ;)
