That's the battle I have anxiously been waiting for as I am living only a few miles from the supposed battlefield.

But when I start the battle an error message occurs:

Sorry, the file 'Battle of Teutoburg Forest' does not seem to be valid. Each side must have 1 overall leader. Side 1 has 0. Side 2 has 0.

Can this problem be solved?

Thanks in advance to you and all other scenario makers for your efforts!

I really enjoyed this one. But the Roman legions survived! Good thing the Arminius was in charge and not a PC.

You need to download a third party extractor that will work with rar extensions. I use 7-Zip.

Sorry but as mentioned I don't get that far - once dloaded I double click on the file & I only get the standard windows doesn't recognise this file with options to let windows search the net for a program or select myself a program to run it. If I seelct the latter FoG is not offered.

Running XP.

Windows will not recognize rar files. I'm running XP also. Download the the 7-Zip program and install it. It will reconize the rar file and let you extract it...

7-Zip also works with Win 7. I use it on my laptop....

Well done Scar, you've changed history. In your alternative universe there will probably be no Fall of the Roman Empire, no Hundred Years War, no Unification of Germany, no Franco Prussian war, no World War I, no World War II. You have probably saved about 500 million lives over the past 2000.5 years - good work for a Saturday afternoon, I reckon!
lol yes, or there may have been thousands of years of bitter internal strife as we all fought against Pax Romana and the idea of learning latin in school.

Great job with the scenario, loads of fun!

Excellent scenario to play - a little different from many of the pre organised battlefield lines of many battles.

Seriously though, any comments would be welcome about this 'medium sized' scenario I have just put together.

I find the wild anarchy charges just add to the realistic feel. A commander in those days must have been constantly frustrated by lack of control over his forces.

All these 'wargaming tactics' that we are all so familiar with, like rear attacks and flank attacks by carefully maneuvering your units through gaps in the fighting are completely artificial and bear no relation to the real thing. Remember, no maps, no watches, no radios, so much noise that no-one can hear anything above the screaming of the dead and dieing. Clouds of dust obscuring sight, not knowing if your last orders got through, or if they arrived before your previous orders, helpful advisors all clamouring with advice on what to do next ...

When we fight this battle as the Romans, we fight knowing right from the start that this is a major emergency and that every action we need to take is absolutely vital, including abandoning the baggage, for example. I'm sure that Varus was not of that opinion when it kicked off. "In God's name, what's the bl**dy problem now" was probably his first thought.

However, in wargaming terms, you are correct - the wild charges are a bit of a pain!
