800 Point New Kingdom Egyptian
Hello there everyone;
I thought I'd use this part of the forum to put up my various 800 point army list ideas for review and suggestions. The first one being my NKE list... Here goes:
New Kingdom Egyptian:
1x FC
2x TC
(4)Egyptian Chariots: Superior/Drilled/Bow
(4)Egyptian Chariots: Superior/Drilled/Bow
(4)Egyptian Chariots: Superior/Drilled/Bow
(4)Canaanite Chariots: Superior/Undrilled/Bow
(8)Close Fighters: MF/Protected/Average/Drilled/Light Spear Swordsmen
(8)Close Fighters: MF/Protected/Average/Drilled/Light Spear Swordsmen
(8)Archers: MF/Unprotected/Average/Drilled/Bow
(8)Archers: MF/Unprotected/Average/Drilled/Bow
(8)Nubian Archers: LF/Unprotected/Average/Undrilled/Bow
(8)Sherden/Sea Peoples Swordsmen: MF/Protected/Average/Undrilled/Impact Foot Swordsmen
(8)Sherden/Sea Peoples Swordsmen: MF/Protected/Average/Undrilled/Impact Foot Swordsmen
(4)Egyptian Guardsmen: HF/Protected/Superior/Drilled/Light Spear Swordsmen
800 Points
My idea was to have the Guardsmen in the middle with Close Fighters on either side, MF Archers in front of the Close Fighters, Eqyptian Chariots on the attack wing and Canaanite Chariots on the refuse wing.
Thank you in advance for any thoughts, comments, suggestions, critiques.

Nke
looking at this again are you trying to play a shooting army or a melee army?
I would be tempted to go one way or the other. If shooting drop some sherden, upgrade to ic and the nubians to superior. Otherwise 4 tc and beef up the sherden swap to sherden guard and drop 1 bg of chariots to cover points?

Hi Ben;
That is a great thought. I suppose my idea was to have a lot of shooty elements to soften up the enemy before a massed charge by the close fighters et al. You bring up another good point too and it is one that I am still trying to fully understand. The whole concept of the IC vs FC vs TC. I know about the different command ranges but what tactical advantages do they impart in a game situation with, say, this army?
I guess what I'm really asking is... how do you use command range effectively.
I appreciate your post.
Thank you,

The big thing that an IC will give you is the +2 on CTs for shooting within his range, which can extend to a third of the table's width. For troops that are only Protected at best, that's a big benefit. Add in rear support and your Unprotected Archers can stand up well in a shooting match. The Close Fighters, who can interpenetrate the Archers, are good for this.The whole concept of the IC vs FC vs TC. FCs are good to use as Sub Generals if your plan includes Flank Marching on a regular basis.
The other benefits are +1 or +2 to Pre Battle Initiative, which can help you get your trerrain choice.

kevinj has pointed out the benifits of the ic (which for nke i would think to be the better choice)
the idea with 4 tc is to get the best chance of the first turn and deny the enemy manouver space. It tends to work well with tough quality troops that are good in melee (i use 4 tc with my swiss)
for nke i would expect ic and 2 tc to be better as you will have a good chance of ending up in a shooting match at somepoint.

Re: Nke
Many thanks to both Benos and Kevinj. I now have some tools to play with. I'll do some experimenting with the Pharaoh's boys when they arrive. I'm looking forward to playing them.benos wrote:kevinj has pointed out the benifits of the ic (which for nke i would think to be the better choice)

Hey everyone:
I am playing against a Later Mycenaean opponent tonight lots of spear, chariots and LF types. Any suggestions on deployment strategies? I've made some changes to the original list for a more shooty egyptian experiene: Changed to CinC to IC, got rid of the Serden Swordsmen, added Sherden Guard and inproved the Nubians to superior, Now I just need to figure out how to deploy them!
As always, thanks in advance.
