FOG won't run after expansion.

Post by Johnus »

I just ordered ROR, downloaded and now I can't run Field of Glory at all. It says I'm missing a file. Can I redownload ROR. And how do I do so. I did not pay for extended download.

I didn't copy my order number because the download seemed fine. I do, of course have my serial number.

Can you be more specific about the error message and when you get it. I would imagine your order number is on the email you got after you ordered? You should be able to download again for a while even without the extended download service (but let's determine whether the issue is the download first).

Cheers

Pip:

Message contained in post above. I get it immediately when I hit "OK" to start game from start menu. I did find my order and re-downloaded and re-installed. Same results.

Please help.

Thanks.

This inidicates you are missig a key image file. It seems odd that you are missing this and others are not. Did you change any of the idefault nstallation folders? I would suggest that you save the downloads for FoG and RoR from Slitherine and your keys. Then uninstall Rise of Rome and Field of Glory and restart the PC. Then delete anything in c:\program files\slitherine\field of glory AND c:\program files(x64)\slitherine\field of glory. Delete any short cust you have to start Field of Glory on your desktop or windows menus. Then re-install Field of Glory and Rise of Rome. Keith

FOG alone runs fine. But if I patch it to 1.10, I get the same result as expanding to ROR. The problem seems to be with 1.10 whether applied itself or with the expansion. Never had a problem like this before.

Everything is being installed to c/program files/slitherene/FOG. I tried deleting everything, re-starting PC, etc., as suggested. No joy.

Would it be possible to identify the "missing file" and manually install it?? To state the obvious, I can't run the game at all.

I think the problem may not be that simple. The file was there before you installed and it worked, but not afterwards. My best guess is you have installed the update to a different folder to the orginal game. Did you start with the Matrix version of FoG and patch with the Slitherine version? If so you have to manually locate the Matrix install as it assumes our patch is going on our version.

Iain:

I must have the Slitherine version. The "Register" box is grayed out, and I can't register with my serial over at Matrix. I'm installing with the defaults but they appear to be going to the right place. Can you tell me how to do it manually. Just installed FOG again and, unpatched, that game alone runs fine. Both the patch and expansion installers default to c\program files\slitherine\Fog; Shortcut: Slitherine\FOG. And that is where the game is.

Thanks.

PS: The original FOG creates a "Slitherine" File on my C drive and installs there. When I examine that file after patching, I don't see anything, however, indicating that the game is patched. If the patch went elsewhere, why would the original game not just run as it did pre-patch?

O.K. I got it to run. Re-installed FOG and patched to 1.03. Then ran ROR expansion and it works. I believe the download section states that 1.10 is an all-inclusive patch. For me, at least, I had to have 1.03 installed for 1.10 or the expansion to work. I uninstalled and tried again just to make sure. Could just be my setup, but maybe not. Most people will be already patched to 1.03 when they install ROR and will not have my problem. My hard drive was peviously emptied, so when I re-installed my game it wasn't patched to 1.03. You might want to recommend patching first to 1.03 on your download section.

I suppose it is Sunday, even in Great Britain, so I thank you for your "after hours" responses.

Thanks.

Ok we'll try and work that out - we may have to add that file to the installer.
