I have noticed that in a DAG game against the AI that for some reason my general who was cat, was the only cav unit who went off and did uncontrolled charges, twice in one game. The rest of the cats behaved themselves watching their commander run off uncontrollably.
Also had a Ptolemaic general AI controlled, charge through one of his own pike units to engage one of my pike units. Actually seeing the AI likes sending cavalry or light horse against pikes, not sure why since it would not be my first choice.

Lance armed cavalry and cataphracts are subject to impetuous charges(anarchy in the help index) if they fail a CMT while in charge range of the enemy. There are a lot more of these about. Keith

I knew that just find it odd that the generals are the ones who go charging off like that is all.

Like everyone else they take a complex move test to avoid charging. The rest if bad luck. See keyboard shortcuts in teh help index and you will see there are a number of options to turn on or off more detailed combat and test information. Keith
