How do you get it to show up? I can't seem to find it.

What dialog box? There is a list of keyboard short cuts in the online help that might cover what you are looking for.

There's a gray box I see in screen shots showing die rolls and POAs, etc. Is that some special thing for beta testers?

If it's the black one with white text in the lower left corner, use U to display it and T to hide it again. I believe H adds more detail to it. It's called the summary display in the online help.
