It's not quite as explicit as Phil suggests Matt - although I do agree with him.

It's page 122 - last bullet, 5th indent.

It is implied in the fact that only first and second rank can fight.

Fair enough. I can't imagine this one will come up often enough to justify further nit-picking, let alone a rule change.
