New download user unable to run the program

Post by mellis1644 »

I just downloaded the digital version and registered but although I can get to the initial 'splash screen', when I hit o.k. nothing happens - no process in the process list or anything displayed etc. I could and did register the program and there were no issues on install.

I have checked the program install directory and can't find any error files/logs. I have also updated to v1.03 (via 1.02) and that does not help, as well as restarting etc.

The system is a IBM thinkpad (a laptop) with a T2500 3 GHz CPU and 2 GB of memory. The display adapter is the ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 with driver version 8.293.1.0. It's running XP Professional 2002, service pack 3 - with the auto-updater up to date to mandatory system enabled.

I do have McAfee running but can't see any reports of issues/clashes - but that does not mean they are not occurring.

How do I check if I have the right video drivers and config etc. to see if this is the issue?

Sorry if you are having problems.

What is the resolution of your display?

When you say you see an initial splash screen what exactly do you see? Have you tried running in a window?

One thing you could try is to turn off McAffee and try installing the game again. Sometimes virus checkers are a real pain and just dont let other applications run/install....

I got this resolved. I had to find and install a later version of the ATI driver, which was an optional hardware patch available from Windows - this seems to have resolved the issue. It also support the 1400 x 1050 display resolution which from your comments may be the issue?

Anyway, I'm up and running - and losing, but the main thing is the issue is resolved. :)

Thanks for the prompt reply though.
