My 28mm Samurai

Post by irondog068 »

Well I got the Empires of the Dragon and tired of waiting for FOGR Samurai and to lazy to finish my rules I decided to put together a Samurai army to try at little Wars. They are not mounted with mixed weapons and most of the BW* look a lot like Teppo. Okay they are Teppo being treated as BW* but if everyone is using figures out of date, might as well join the crowd at least they look good. here is the forces of good (or evil).

1x Field commander (Kato Kiyomosa)
2x Troop commanders (Maeda Toshiie, Ii Naotaka)
5x6 stands Ashigaru MF/Arm/undrilled/Bw*/Hw
1x4 stands Samurai Cavalry Arm/Sup/undrilled/Bw/Swordsman
1x6 stands Samurai MF/Arm/Sup/undrilled/skilled swordsman
1x6 stands Samurai MF/Arm/Sup/undrilled/Offensive spearman
4x field fortifactions (Tate)
I can make the Samurai either 3x4 Spear if i want I have around 1000 points painted. I know all these figure don't fit in 1500 but as I Gaze at my Samurai I see nothing but 1580. Except the fact the teppo are mixed with the yari.

Well what do you think? Plan to give them a test drive this Wed.

Which list is this based on?

Doesn't look like any I have read!

Based on Heian - Muromachi list >>>>
Your Ashigaru would be classed as Bushi (same armour and armament)
Every Samurai unit would require you to have an accompanying Ashigaru Unit (which could only be Protected with a choice of Poor or Ave)

Oh....
I see that. Lucky I have enough painted Perry's to do that!
Let me rework it and get back to the brain trust. :)

How is this..

Post by irondog068 »

1x FC
2x TC
1x8 Ashigaru: MF/Arm/Avg/Undrilled/Bw*/Hw
3x6 Ashigaru: MF/Arm/Avg/Undrilled/Bw*/Hw
2x6 Ashigaru: MF/Protected/Avg/Undrilled/ Offensive spear
1x6 Samurai: MF/Arm/Sp/Undrilled/Offensive spear or Skilled Swordsman
1x4 Samurai Cavalry Cv/Arm/undrilled/Bw/swordsman

This is 650 points. I kind of want to use my tate since they look very cool with the mons on them. If I use offensive spear for my Samurai I can dismount the cavalry. I only have 6 stands of sword armed Samurai.

Well now what you think?

My Bad!
It is 5x6 Ashigaru: Armored/Avg/undrilled/Bw*/Hw

So it is
1XFc
2xTC
5x6 Ashigaru armored/avg/Bw*/Hw
2x6 Ashigaru/protected/avg/yari
1x6 Samurai armored/sup/Yari or skilled sword
1x4 Samurai cav/ Sup/bow/sword
total 648

I really don't want to loose the cavalry. I have some monk figures and since Kato was a pretty die hard Buddhist I would throw them in the Samurai with his mon. Plus it would satisfy my Buddhist teaching

If you don't have to have it I would take more infantry as one BG will get picked on if it leaves the safety of your battle line.

I thought it would be helpful to have at least one (most I can have). Even my Swiss have 2 but one is Lorrainers. I couls give it a try with no cavalry and if I don't like it go back. My first battle is against the Mongols so no matter what happens I will be outnumberefd in cav.

I have both Mongols and Samurai in 15mm at that scale you are going to have a hard time of it in 25mm you need to fill the board edge to edge and keep moving forward (without taking shooty losses) until the Mongols have no room left to run away and commit to melee. Then all you have to do is win. Still a lot of hard work and if your opponent dithers over his moves time could run out before you can get a decisive result either way.

For my first go vs the Mongols I am going to use the 1x6 Samurai foot and the 1x4 Samurai Cav.
I figure the extra shooting unit could come in handy vs the Mongols.
I will let you know.

Next week it is a 800 point Samurai army vs. 800 point Mongols in 28mm. Now that's a lot of lead!
