Routing.

Post by jamespcrowley »

Having had a fair bit of exposure to FoG now , I wonder if I am alone in thinking that Routing BGs are treated far too leniently.

They can slide past several enemy BGs without any penalty, often going in the opposite direction to their 'lines' or side and then end up behind their opponents 'lines'. They then have the opportunity to reform into a potentially useable unit which, at least, can restict movement of enemy units or even attack and tie-up reserves.

Bear in mind that a routed BG is no longer a coherent unit as such but a mass of panic-stricken men or women whose sole objective is self preservation. Having just encountered and lost to an enemy unit it seems highly unlikely that they would rush, as a mass, to another enemy unit. If they did they would surely panic and scatter even more and so on and so on, until such time they are scattered life chaff in the wind.

I propose that should a BG, in routing, come into contact with an enemy BG, that it loses 25% of its strength, in the same manner as when a routed unit is engaged by a BG. In that way if its rout 'route' takes it past a number of enemy BG's, it will effectively cease to exist.

Hear, hear. And what about autobreak? BGs still need to tak 100% loses before they go away.

I fully agree with you. Each instance of contact with a new enemy BG should incur a 25% loss during rout.
