List sent to me in PM

Post by rbodleyscott »

Hello:

I send a list that I made for DBR years ago for the Low Countries Spanish and as I like a lot the period. As I haven't the beta list I can't say if is there any mistake. Hope that it is a help. The book that is used mostly is Sintesis Histórica de la Caballeria Española de J. de Sotto Montes. Am trying to read a book of Clonard but it is quite difficult to find and I know that It could be find in the libraries of the Spanish Army.
The best books about the Tercios are Los Tercios of Rene Quatrefages (can be found in french) and another published by the Spanish Army (Los tercios, la infanteria en el Siglo de Oro), about the cavalry it is quite poor and the best book that I have found its the written by Sotto (it is also published by the Spanish Army)

The notes of the list are in spanish and english
If you send me the beta list of the spanish a could give you notes.

hope it is a help

Albert X. Galeote

P.D. the spanish sword and buckler men are called "Rodeleros"

I have added the warm option if you want to represent the portuguese or catalonian revolts (1640 to 1659).
1 - Ha sido cambiado el nombre, gens d´armes (de la palabra francesa de gendarmerie) por Hombres de Armas (no era normalmente utilizado: Gente de Armas) y han sido suprimidos los herguletiers por el momento ya que no son conocidos en España, que tipo de caballeria son (la palabra no es española y si son mercenarios) 1 - It is changed the name, gens d´armes (from the french word of gendarmerie) for Hombres de Armas (it´s not used normally Gente de armas). and it has be suprimed the herguletiers for the moment to be not known at Spain what kind of cavalry are (the word it is not spanish and if they are mercenaries, )
2 - Escopeteros is cavalry with firearms.
3 - Against the original list, it has been also include the Sh (O) to the proportion to have more Sk. This is because is that at Nordlingen is that Cardenal-Infante ordered to screen the Spanish-Imperialist Army with skimishers.
4 - Herreruelos or Pistoletes: type of light horse which sustitute the Stradiots by the military ordenance of 1560. They where armed with a Pistoletes (it is a longer tupe of pistol) and a sword, their defensive arms were corselet, greaves and a type of helm called chapelete. And its funtion were of being at the vanguard, having the most commit as service of exploration and security, and contact with the forward enemies. With this funtion, they used quick maneavers and movement, the action (called rociada - sprayed) of discharging their firearms, and using the sword they charge the disordered enemy. They fighted at very opened order and dispersed. The name of herreruelo doesn´t come from its protections. it comes from from its short cloak which they wore and had the same name
5 - By the military reform of 1579, were changed the firearms of the Escopeteros to the arquebus and renamed as arcabuceros montados (mounted arquebusiers).
Se dice que había sobre los 400. 6 - The existence of the Croats between the Spanish troops have the evidence at the battles of Honnecourt, Rocroi, etc... It says that there were 400.
I have couldn´t determinated (for the moment, probably by the ordenance of 1632) the appearence of the Caballos Corazas. It starts progresively sustituting the Lanzas because the use of the lance were less effective, but it didn´t dissapeared.and probably it was been used with the Caballos Corazas. Also there was a period that the Caballos Corazas used ginetas (light lances).

(es probable que entraran antes). 8 - It says that they existed and were used before 1635, but the true evidence is that they where created by order of the king at 1635 by D. Pedro de Santa Cecilia in Inspruck . It started to open 800 for its ranks. It has been determinated only to Spain because they were not known in Low Countries before 1673!!! (probably there were before).
9 - The Arcabuceros changed their firearms, to the carabin (and renamed as Carabinas or Carabineros), less armour, and the tactic for caracoling.. The arquebus passed to the Dragoons
