9 Base Battle Groups

Post by TERRYFROMSPOKANE »

Page 22 says the only time a BG can have an odd number of bases is if it is composed of 2/3 one troop type and 1/3 another. The Later Minoan list says a BG of Spearmen can be "2/3 or all" Spearmen and "1/3 or 0" Supporting archers. The list also states the BG size can be "6-9".

1. I take these 2 rules to mean I could have a BG of 6 Spearmen or 8 Spearmen only -or- a BG of either 6 or 9 bases of mixed troop types. Is that right?

2. Does the "2/3 & 1/3" reference apply to the whole army -or- could my army include a mixture of Battle Groups of each of the above (some with 1/3 Light Archers and some of pure Spearmen) types?

Thanks, Terry G.

The list rules will usually tell you something like, "All archers must be the same quality", or "If any mixed BG's are used then all must be mixed." If it doesn't stipulate then you should be able to mix All with 2/3 1/3 units in an army. There are also rules in the back under "Using the lists"

Silly me, I was looking for information on using the lists in the front of the book instead of in the back. The Appendix uses the list I was concerned about as an example. It does state "6 or 8 bases per spears only BG and 6 or 9 bases per mixed BG". Neither the appendix nor the list itself specifically prohibits using a combination of said groups, so I guess I am OK there.

Thanks, Terry G.
