Political aspects

Post by gerones »

This is an only military wargame without political aspects but it would be interesting to introduce some for avoiding abuses. In CEAW if a nation invades a neutral country this does´t have any political concequences. I mean that apart from the cancellation of the russia-german trade oil when Germany invades USSR and the same about the swedish iron ore, there´s no events with political consequences in this game. I propose to introduce some political values like the following:
  • Germany invasion of Holland --> Belgium join the alllies
  • UK invades Ireland --> the USA entry at war is postponed
This last one has been mentioned yet here in the forums: by introducing USA-USSR probabilites of entering at war. What I mean is that a major power would have to suffer some political costs with some "easy" neutral countries invasions.

Your suggestions sound like a good idea, though am not sure that the UK gains much by invading Ireland anyway, apart from I guess as somewhere to base STR for U-Boat attacks - has anyone actually tried this and found it useful?

Those were only examples for what I meant. It seems that invading a neutral and "easy" country is a profitable operation with almost no costs for a major CEAW power. I have already proposed, e.g., not to apply the effectiveness penalty in the west when Germany attacks to Holland separately from Belgium and to only apply this penalty when Germany DOW´s both Belgium and Holland. This would make more historical this phase of the war and it would avoid these "comfortable" invasions.
