Skilled swordsman vs. Steady Off Spear

Post by pease1 »

Are we playing this right...all other things even, are skilled swordsman (-) against stead offensive spear (+) in melee (not impact)?
See what I'm painting and playing on my wargaming blog: http://ajs-wargaming.blogspot.com/

If I understand it correctly yes in melee if the spear are steady and in two ranks.

In impact Sw and SSw have no PoA on their own while Off Spear do, so in theory you are correct there as well.

True but most Sw?Skilled sword are with impact foot therefore ++ against other foot and therefore at + in impact then if the spears are not disordered the spears on a +

Yes the impact foot is up on the spears in impact, then in melee the spears, if they stay steady, cancel the sword POA. If the spears are disrupted, 1 rank deep or fragged then the sword POA comes back and its not so great being offensive spear any more.
Personal favourite is offensive spear armoured , that evens out those armoured swordsmen :)

Almost right.

One rank of steady spear is still steady spear and still cancels the swordsmen and skilled swordsmen POA.

Overall swordsmen of any flavour in melee against spears are assuming equal armour a POA down if the spears are in 2 ranks and steady, even if the spears are disrupted and in 2 ranks or steady in one rank and a POA up if the spear are fragmented or disrupted and in 1 rank.

get it the swords are cancelled by spears period, but have to be in two ranks to get the spear POA
Thanks for pointing that one out. You can tell the only spears I ever deal with are offensive :)
