pergame vs italian ostrogothic second try to report

Post by domblas »

I played the Phil's italian ostrogotic army against pergams. Table was pretty bare. I succesfully places the river and the road. i deployed my cavalry on my right and skirmishers in teh center and on my left. My opponent placed his heavy infantery (big pique block and galatians) on his right, which i was so happy. I said to myself, this guys will never be where the battle will take place. His cavalry was in the middle.

after one turn, his skirmishers rushed forward very confident in the superiority of the cretans with commanders versus the ostrogoth bowmen. But....

he lost the missile pre battle! His cretans where now in danger of a charge. They choose to evade and.... got caught in the back and routed. U can also see below the dice for killing the general ;-)

Very nice report: I am glad you finally made it after so many attempts! Regarding the battle, I would recommend always to get close to historical deployments. I think that the main Pergamene problem, as you mentioned, seems to be the deployment of such a clashing force of pikemen where they were useless. Making them playing around was a great idea, especially with light cavalry! Well done! I am looking forward to read your next reports!
