Melee Questions

Post by speedy »

Elephants (maybe also chariots?) have no armour, so all protected and armoured troops get a routine POA against them? (Or none?)

Does/should cohesion rise when winning a combat? (Wavering troops pursuing routers for example?)

Presumably casualties are removed from the front ranks? But what happens in a mixed unit (say including supporting archers)?

Archers move into second rank, and earn a melee dice? But might have different POAs applying? So their dice are rolled separately? But what if, say, we're losing every third element due to cohesion? A unit of 4 would lose 1 dice normally, working the melee as two sets of 2 would mean no loss of dice?

Skirmishers - we're finding large units that can pass CMTs (say keep an IC nearby) very resilient in melee. Reduce maximum unit sizes?

>>> No armour POA's apply to either side when fighting elephants or chariots.

Does/should cohesion rise when winning a combat? (Wavering troops pursuing routers for example?)
>>> We have considered it, but at the moment we treat the lull in combat as an opportunity to rally. It could also slow down resolution of the battle.

Presumably casualties are removed from the front ranks? But what happens in a mixed unit (say including supporting archers)?
>>> This will be defined more clearly in the next version.

Archers move into second rank, and earn a melee dice? But might have different POAs applying? So their dice are rolled separately? But what if, say, we're losing every third element due to cohesion? A unit of 4 would lose 1 dice normally, working the melee as two sets of 2 would mean no loss of dice?
>>> If the front rank dies, the 3rd rank archers move to 2nd rank and fight on different POA's, therfore rolling different dice. The unit loses dice 1 per 3 and then you allocate the dice to each target, so in total you would have 3 dice and it would be up to you to choose where the extra dice fought (2 and 1). The rest will be clarified in the next version.

Skirmishers - we're finding large units that can pass CMTs (say keep an IC nearby) very resilient in melee. Reduce maximum unit sizes?
>>> The army lists limit unit sizes, so 8 is the largest. We're not really sure what you mean?
