If a unit can get to another unit then it attacks it - units can only attack one unit. So if you outnumbered you will be taking more hits than you are giving out, but it depends on the arrangement of the melee.

Cheers

It's been a while, but I'm back to playing the game.

I'm playing the "Honourable Knight" campaign currently and am enjoying it.

Blood mode does make things very expensive: even with low casualties (27), I had to pay 1000 gold to fix everybody up because some of the casualties were knights in full plate, and they'll cost you.

I noticed "Master of the Tourney" is not triggered by lances, which is a bit odd, considering the popularity of jousting, and there's no "jousting" skill.

"Slipping the point" also somehow doesn't work even though the description indicates it should work for lances. I bought the skill in my campaign as the English a while ago, but when I checked it today in the "Honourable Knight" campaign, the skill was greyed out even though my knights were using lances (their equipment: plate, cavalry shield, lance) and I didn't get a bonus.

Master of Tilting is the skill for the lance. Tourney is the skill for all other weapons :)

Slipping the point requires Lance or Sword.

Glad you are enjoying the new campaign - it is pretty cool :)

OK, what's the prerequisite for Master of Tilting/what skills do I need before I can get that?

Here's a screenshot showing that Slipping the point is greyed out even though the knights are using lances.

I selected the skill and then reloaded the saved game, so the skill icon is in the lower right (from before loading the saved game, the icon disappears as soon as you close the management screen, but the skill is still not selected (so you can read the full description).

You need Horsemanship -> Neck Reigning -> Master of Tilting.

Doesn't indicate much. Tried switching to a sword, nothing. Tried removing the shield, nothing.

I found Master of Tilting, it's a pretty cheap skill for what it offers. As Slipping the Point doesn't seem to work, I'll take Neck Reigning and Master of Tilting. The knights already have the Trample skill, so they should be very deadly when they charge.

Edit: Completed the campaign, it was enjoyable. Time to start the French campaign again, so I can finish it.

I still think some more Archery skills would be nice. After bow mastery and Nocking and Drawing I'm spending points on melee proficiency now, as there are no other archery skills. A swarm of archers with warhammers can be pretty deadly to armoured targets.

Sorry no - hadn't had a chance to check yet :(

We tend to look at things when there is a critical mass as it takes a long time to get up to speed on a project adn jumping around all the time means not much gets done.

I guess it doesn't work for mounted units. That does mean it will never work for Lances though, only for sword-armed infantry or dismounted cav.

Not sure what the best solution would be from a balancing point of view, allowing it for cavalry or removing Lance from the skill requirement.
