A tip in editor : how to rename a great number of unit

Post by welk »

For designers of scenario who want to rename a great number of units on map, without rename EACH unit individually and save time, just follow these process :

1°/Open the "Game fixed" xml file in the directory of the concerned scenario (important : save all the files of your original scenario before, including all non xml files - it's very important in case you shoud have to restablish old version of the scenario)

2°/This Game fixed file must be opened with bloc note (better than to use xml editor in this case : bloc note give smore security in the operation (because some xml editors may cause crash in this operation)

3°/In the file, open the "replace" function. In "search", enter exactly that :

name="X" (you must enter exactly that : name="X" and not just enter "X")

X is the name of the units have in the editor of the game

4°/In "replace" box, enter : name="Y" (you must enter exactly that : name="Y", and not just enter "Y")

Y is the new name you want for the concerned units.

5°/Then, click ok and lets bloc notes do the work

6°/At end, save the file (use directly "register" command, not "register as")

If you go in the editor, you see that all concerned units have now their new name : you can rename 10, 20, 50, 100 units in a few seconds.

I use this tip to rename all the units in my Napoleonic mod
