A lot of tounaments are in effect closed to a lot of people. I'm not going to enter any games in the antipodes for the forseeable future. And as the rankings uses an algorhythm based on a 70's rock band, where it matters who you play, it will make no difference to the ranking scores of those that did not attend.dave_r wrote:Yes, but everybody is allowed to enter that, unlike the ITC, which is a closed comp.

Open or invitational competiton status is irrelevant for a game by game ranking system. What matters is who played who and what the result is, not how ell a given player did relative to the field.philqw78 wrote:A lot of tounaments are in effect closed to a lot of people. For the UK rankings where relative placing matters (i.e. a tournament win is worth more than fourth place) then invitational events are not included.
Events like the ITC are very important if the world rankings are to have any validity.
