How does command work

Post by will05 »

How does command work in this game compared to the TT game. I see commanders are fixed to a combat unit and they don't have IC FC TC values.

ICs have 3 flags, FC have 2 flags, TC have 1 flag. See help for command radii for each command type. Commander bonuses apply within command radius in general but commander must be adjacent to units bolstering to regain cohesion and for units which are in combat (as opposed to being with the BG in the TT game). As far as I can tell, the commander's BG being in combat does not affect this but I'm not certain.

A significant difference from the TT is that your BGs will attempt to bolster at the end of your turn whether or not there is a commander adjacent. But the commander modifier will only apply for this if the commander is adjacent. I haven't determined for sure whether BGs which dropped cohesion on your turn may attempt to bolster at the end of that turn although I tend to think they may.

My impression is if they dropped that turn they wont get a chance to bolster. I have moved commanders adjacent to many freshly broken units and see them run off anyway so I suspect they can't bolster on the same turn. I think it may be mentioned somewhere in the manual which is part of the game.

Also if you read the help section on rallying it states the leader gives a bonus if adjacent to a routing unit rather than within command range. That may just be a mistake in that part of the help but there is no way to test it.

Only way to test it is to get Alexander beside some broken unit, surprising how often he can get them back into the fight again.
