Commagenes

Have been looking this army over the weekend, looks quite flexible with a hardy mix of Pikes, cataphracts, Horsearchers & Foot archers.

However, their history was a comparitively short one, so there is scant detail on the army on books or detail, barring the Allied troops sent to aid the Roman campaign to crush Judea in 69 AD.

Am unsure whether to use Parthian or Armenian Mounted (Commagene sat right between the two) & Foot archers, & Macedonian Pandapatoi Phlanx for the Pikes.
As for colours? Not a clue

I seriously doubt that many 15mm manufacturers will know much more than you, and any ranges labelled Armenian and Parthian may well be the same figures anyway I'd go for whatever looks good, and a mix of Greek style phalanx and more exotic eastern infantry would be cool

I'll go shopping at Penarth I think, see what's on offer

The interesting thing is the leading account is by Josephus, who mentions the Commagene Cataphracts as Dismounted & using their lances to attack across the walls.
First time I've ever read of Cataphracts as dismounted!

Used to happen all the time in the olden days (well, when we played DBM)

Cataphracts dismounting to defend a bridge and becoming absolutely invulnerable in the process was, according to Phil Barker, the key incident leading to the writing of the first WRG ruleset.
