Alexandrian Macedonian Phalangites
I've been torn about this for a while now, but should i use phalangites (foot companions) in BGs of 8, 10, 12??? I realize that with 10 you can use the extra bases to absorb some shock and twelve seems to be pretty flexible but I like having a large amount of BGs; it's easier for me to maneuver. Thoughts please?

I've tried artillery with my Romans against Dead.'s Seleucids. Never turned out successful: He just avoided the stuff. I've placed them adj. to camp, with fortifications in front, but the prob is your battle line either advances and you have an exposed point or you hang back, waiting for pikes that never come.

Personally I would say no to the artillery, as for the pikes, I have debated about 112's but 8's is a lot more maneuverable ao that is my choice. However putting a 12 in the middle flanked by 8's might work out ok as the 12 is pretty much just going to go straight on in and roll over whatever is in its path.
Romans will be hard pressed with pikes, even on impact and the pikes go up + in melee.
thing to watch is if you go disrupted the Romans get their swords back, and if you go fragged its ++ for the Romans so keep that in mind. Also watch terrain as being disordered will give the Romans the sword back too.
good luck and have fun Pikes are great when they work well but can be devastating if they lose cohesion and take base losses.
