Early Teutonic Knights

Post by Scrumpy »

I have some 13th century knights waiting for the paint, and was wondering what people thought of the early Teutonic list. Is it viable ? Probably looking at the Hungarian rather than the Turcopole version for the light horse, so that is pre 1230 or so.

Cheers

I think there is a fun list in there. Max knights. 12 BG. minimum foot. 2-3 drilled BGs of KN are dangerous to anyone.

Sprinkle in a little LH to play with enemy LH and its clearly a decent army.

Check out Imperial German, too. Offensive spear in that list and good MF. Depending on the options also Hungarian allies LH and Cav.

Problem with the Teutons is the lack of bg, the kn weigh in at 104 pts a bg, and not keen on the foot in 6s if not armoured. Used the Imp Germans last week, very nice army, but have the figures to use as them, just wanted something new with the lead I picked up.

I've used the later ones a fair bit and there's not much difference between the two. The early have better Xbow cav as they can be armoured... but then you have to sacrifice points elsewhere. The foot tend to be rubbish so I really only used the LF as BG filler.

Oddly, I've found they fair better against mounted armies; taking on decent foot you need dice luck or your opponent to be incompetent. It is a do or die army and not likely to be a tournament winner.

1st attempt at a list... 1242 AD

3x tc Generals
3x 4 Brother knights
1x 4 Vassals (average)
1x 4 Mounted crossbow
3x 4 Turcopoles
2x 8 Undrilled def Spear
1x 8 MF light spear
1x 6 LF poor bow

For those who have seen the film Alexander Nevsky, all I need now is a 15mm church organ and mad monk playing it for the baggage !

Clearly, an unfortified camp at 2:42. Even a girly great-great-great-great-great-great & cet. granddaughter of the GLBT Skythians can take it . . .

I prefer a funny army and one with a more historical flavour rather than a tournament winner army 8)

Yeah, however I managed to beat it, so that alone probably rules it out in many peoples eyes

But Il Campione di Tutti Europa di FoG is expected to win, and with an Italian sense of flair & style !

Do you leave 15mm horse's heads under the pillows of those who fail to respect you and throw good dice ?
