Which route for a rout?

Post by batesmotel »

How does the game decide the initial rout move for broken troops? In the table top game, routers make their initial move away from the enemy in contact with a little deviation allowed to avoid friends they cannot legally interpenetrate, etc. In the PC game I have seen broken units seem to deviate noticeably from directly away to avoid friends some of the time and other times they seem to deviate from directly away in order to maximize the number of friends they interpenetrate. Does the game randomy decide each hex of a rout move which way to deviate or are there some rules in play that I just haven't figured out? While watching massive stampedes starting with a single routing unit can be entertaining to watch, it would be nice to have some idea how the game decides so I can attempt to deploy my troops in depth in a sensible manner.

They move away from the enemy keeping in a cone that points away from them. It moves to an empty tile but I think it needs to do more forward looking as it sometimes mobves in to a dead end when an open route else where is available.
