Recommendations for Later Mycenaean or Trojan figures

Post by ShadowbendStudios »

Hello everyone;
My name is Skip and I've recently gotten back into 15mm wargaming after a 8 year break (my wife and I had kids... I don't think I need to say more...:)). I've played WRG 7th and DBM and was very please to come across Field of Glory. I'm very happy with the rules and look forward to many satisfying sessions.

A friend of mine and I have decided to put together Achaean and Trojan armies and refight the Trojan wars as our first battles. As such I have a number of questions to bring before you all...

1. Any figure manufacturer recommendations for Later Mycenaeans?
2. If you were going to focus more on the "Trojan Wars" themselves, would you use figures other than the Later Mycenaean to give the army more of a "Homeric (Homerian?)" feel? If so, which figures would you use for the Trojans and Achaeans, and why?
3. Any reference book recommendations for painting purposes? Osprey books etc.?

Thank you in advance for all your help.
Take Care,
Skip

Hello Skip. I "came in from the cold" myself a few months ago. Same thing happened. Kids sort of short circuit all manner of optional activities.

The best Mycenean line presently available in 15mm is available from Old Glory 15mm, now 19th Century Miniatures.

Magister Militum offers an exquisite line of Minoans, but the Minoan list is pretty drab compared to the Later Mycenaen. Still, amy of the minis would be useful in a Mycenaean army. They are a bit petite compared to OG.

A recent STE tournament saw Myceneans in first place. A nice army.

For illustrations I would recommend "The Legend of Odysseus" by Peter Connelly
PG; May contain swearing Russian roulette bloody violence terror medical and regular gore distress horror (including guinea pigs) fantasy horror with scenes where characters are endangered by food and hard to categorise situations involving penguins.

They do. I just referred to them under the name of the current proprietor Magister Militum.

I was unaware than Black Hat do them as well. Unfortunate that the photos leave a lot to be desired, but Black Hat is pretty reliable. The Old Glory are too frenzied and disordered looking for my tastes, as far as the foot go. They do seem to have the most comprehensive line however.

I think Magister Militum sell the former Chariot Miniatures range. Museum Miniatures are a separate company with a separate range (sculpted by Museums owner Dave)

My bad. You are correct and Museum does have a line of the boar's tusk helmet, figure of 8 shield, Minoan looking types.
A nice line.

The "older" Essex figs were GREAT - if you can find them!
