HPB Pike in Orb

If a 2 x 4 block of pike only count the first 3 rows (6) for HPB what happens if they go into orb formation.
Do they still count as a 6 or are they now an 8?

I had asked the same thing a few weeks ago here is the response I got. IF you go down the forums a bit you will see orbing pikes topic

They get no plusses because they are no longer counting as 3+ ranks deep. as long as they are steady though, opponents can't claim lance or sword POAs against them. They also don't suffer penalties for being charged in the flank, or for fighting in more than one direction. They do only get to use 1/4 of their dice in any given direction.

So are you saying that as they do not counts as 3+ ranks then you would count them as an 8 for HPB?

no Poa's for combat and 2 dice per side basically, but opponents would count them as steady spear so no sword POA and no flank or fighting in more than one direction POA's against them.

I understand all of that but you either do not understand my question or don't know the answer.

A block of pike 2 x 4 only count as a unit of 6 for HPB.

If they go into orb do they still count as a 6 or do they count as an 8?

Nothing in the line you have quoted twice answers this question. I understand how they fight and what the POA's are.
I don't care about the "Blooming Plumage"....LOL

They only count as six when four deep. When in Orb they are 2 deep. 1/4 front rank facing each direction and 1/4 second rank facing in each direction. So count as 8 for HPB. Even tho they look 4 deep all their bases count as first or second rank.

Sorry about the confusion before, yes it looks like they will count as 8 bases since they are all first and second rank bases, which probably reflects the overall security the orb provides, perhaps more mental than physical but it makes the boys feel that much safer.
