primer same as undercoat

i'm thinking of trying out games workshop chaos black undercoat but can anyone tell me would that do the same job as a product labelled "primer" or are they different?

The two words 'primer' and 'undercoat' mean the same thing. So both products should do the same job.

The word 'primer' is generally used when referring to metals where the 'top' coat may not stick to the untreated surface very well. The primer is designed to cling to the metal surface strongly. The same applies to say, decorating, where the undercoat will stick better to, for example, bare wood. When gloss paint would not, but it will stick to the undercoat.

Thanks, I thought as much but was a bit thrown by the fact that GW also have a normal brush on paint also called Chaos Black so I was worried I would just be spraying it straight on to the metal instead of brushing straight on to the metal.

The tabletop version has its own area which has a section devoted to modelling.
