We've noticed that the language files in the version Ronnie distributed don't show special letters like Ö, è. û, ü and so on. This is because the files were stored in encoding format ANSI instead of UTF-8. ANSI is default if you save the text in Notepad.
The English version is almost 100% correct and it's only the French city of Orlèans that doesn't show properly. Ronnie will provide a new ww2_city_eng.txt with the proper encoding. But if you don't want to wait for this fix then you can do it yourself in notepad by opening ww2_city_eng.txt and select Save As. Select encoding UTF-8 instead of ANSI and save. Another alternative is to replace the è with e for Orleans. The city has the number 4713 in the file.
I've updated the files for the French, German, Italian and Spanish versions and they will be distributed soon by Ronnie. Look for his message about this. He will also distribute the new files to Slitherine so the version they will release won't have this issue.
But we can't get the Polish and Russian language versions to show properly. These versions probably need some support files we don't have access to. Support for these languages were introduced with the MAC version as far as I can tell. Since we use the PC version we can't actually playtest these languages. So for now Grand Strategy is NOT supported in Russian and Polish.

All language issues are now resolved. The reason the Russian and Polish language didn't show the fonts properly was because there are different versions of the Haettenschweiler font. I found a version that supports cyrillic letters and it works like a charm. I've sent it to Ronnie who will distribute it to you.
The other issues were caused by the txt files being very sensitive for spaces in the text. It uses space to separate columns so if you add extra spaces you get a unintended column shift.
All these issues are now fixed and Ronnie will provide the correct files to Slitherine. Those of you who have already downloaded the mod can get the extra files from Ronnie or me. Send one of us a PM or look for a message from Ronnie about where to download these files.

And it's small. Only 246KB!

If the mod plays for you I wouldn't sweat the minor details. We've been testing Iain's installer this weekend. With the exception of a couple of minor, non game critical, things all works well. We've reported all this back to Iain and I suspect that he'll have the installer ready for general release early next week. The good thing is that games started and saved with the pre release version will load and can continued to be played with the game produced by the official installer version.Blathergut wrote:I downloaded the file, unzipped, and stuck all the data files into the data folder. Orleans on the map still does not read correctly. Should it now? Also, there was an incon with the patch...just where do I put that?

If you start a new game it will. If you load a save game that was started with the Orleans issue then it won't show properly. So the language patch will fix new games.Blathergut wrote:I downloaded the file, unzipped, and stuck all the data files into the data folder. Orleans on the map still does not read correctly.
